Greeting Address
Walburg Maric-Oehler MD

Medical Acupuncture has made great strides in the last decades. By energizing and challenging the traditions of conventional Western medicine, Medical Acupuncture has been in the forefront of establishing the new model of integrative medicine.

ICMART, as the premier international spokes-organization for Medical Acupuncture worldwide, has played a special role in this process. Over many years the ICMART congresses have created a platform of dialogue and exchange in various important areas, including education, clinical practice and research.

Many of you who have taken part in, and have played an active role in these congresses, have witnessed the evolutionary development of Medical Acupuncture. You have been active participants in the birth of international integrative medicine. Since the founding of ICMART in 1983, more and more Medical Acupuncture societies and their thousands of members have participated in this work. We are convinced that, with the help of many old and new friends, we can continue to encourage this historic paradigm shift in medicine.

The organizers of this congress, in cooperation with the ICMART board and the scientific committee, are preparing an interesting and significant program of clinical and scientific topics. Many special sessions and workshops will be part of the congress. They will be critical in considering the aims and goals of Medical Acupuncture in light of the current health policy needs of many countries.

On behalf of the ICMART board and the congress organizers I kindly invite you to the ICMART Congress 2011 ‘State of the Art of Acupuncture in Integrative Medicine’ in The Hague / Den Haag. Our Dutch hosts will welcome you to an exciting environment with countless flourishing tulips as a special, typically Dutch, gift. They will do everything to welcome you and make sure that you are comfortable during your visit to the conference.

Looking forward to welcome you in The Hague.

Your ICMART General Secretary
